Terms of Use
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and brieflylost (“we”, “us”, “our”) and govern your use of the brieflylost mobile app and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. The Service
brieflylost is a navigation app that uses natural-language input to suggest scenic driving routes and provide turn-by-turn directions, primarily within the United Kingdom. Some features are free; some require a paid subscription.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service (or the higher minimum age in your country). If you are under 18 you must have your parent or guardian’s consent. You are responsible for ensuring you are legally permitted to use the Service.
4. Your account
You need an account to use the Service. You agree to:
- Provide accurate information when signing up.
- Keep your password confidential.
- Be responsible for all activity under your account.
- Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app via Account → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent.
5. Subscriptions and billing
brieflylost offers an optional paid subscription that unlocks higher monthly route limits and priority features.
- How to subscribe. You buy a subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (typically monthly) at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Managing or cancelling. You can manage or cancel at any time:
- iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- Android: Google Play Store → Subscriptions.
- Refunds. All refund requests are handled by Apple or Google according to their own policies. We do not directly issue refunds for purchases made through the App Store or Google Play.
- Free trials. If we offer a free trial, you can cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. If you do not cancel, your subscription will start automatically and you will be charged.
- Price changes. We may change subscription prices. You will be notified in advance and given the opportunity to cancel before any new price takes effect.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
- Attempt to interfere with the Service, our servers, or other users.
- Submit content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes someone else’s rights.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
- Bypass or attempt to bypass usage quotas, paywalls, or security measures.
We may suspend or terminate your account if we believe you are violating these Terms.
7. Driving safety — important
Roads close, conditions change, and AI-generated suggestions can be wrong. Use common sense.
8. Your content
You retain ownership of the search queries and any feedback you submit (“Your Content”). By submitting Your Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, store, and process it as needed to operate and improve the Service. We do not claim ownership of Your Content.
9. Our content
The Service, including the app, brand, and software, is owned by brieflylost or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes, in accordance with these Terms.
10. Third-party services
The Service uses third-party providers (for example, Apple, Google, OpenAI, RevenueCat, Stadia Maps). Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use those features. We are not responsible for third-party services.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of route information, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or produce correct or complete route results.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so under UK law (for example, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, brieflylost is not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
- Loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill.
- Any damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or £50, whichever is greater.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms or if we are required to by law. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (for example, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability) will survive.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where local consumer-protection law gives you stronger rights.
16. Apple-specific terms
If you obtained brieflylost through the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These Terms are between you and brieflylost, not Apple.
- brieflylost (not Apple) is solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- In the event the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
